Grove Home Tour – Saturday, July 20 – Reserve Your Spot Now
Grove residents need to email Aleah Vinick by Thursday, July 18 to reserve a complimentary spot and get tour details for the University Grove Home Tour on Saturday, July 20. Like last year, the three tour times (9 am, 11 am, 1 pm) are sold out to members of the MN Historical Society. Thanks to the following residents for generously opening their homes for the tour: Diane and Nevin Young, Connie Martin, Helen Foster, Nancy and Glen Meeden, Anne Pick, and Bob Close and Cindy Peltier. Special thanks to Terri Cermak, 1580 Fulham, for coordinating the event again this year on behalf of the homeowners association.

Agent Fidelio: A Picnic Operetta
Community Park - Roselawn at Cleveland

This 1805 opera of revolution and liberation is retold in the colorful and festive style that Picnic Operetta audiences adore. Emerging from the garden will be secret agents, covert operations and undercover antics–all mashed-up with many musical surprises and served with a sampling menu of locally-sourced noshes!

2013 Grove High School Grads
Pictured (L–R): Amalya (Todd Rhoades and Terri Cermak, 1580 Fulham) graduated from Avalon School in St. Paul. She plans to attend Saint Paul College.

Aiden (Denise and John Deen, 1564 Fulham) graduated from Concordia Academy in Roseville. He plans to attend UMN-Morris.

Alex (Sarah Chambers and Gene Ozaky, 2170 Folwell) graduated from Roseville Area High School and plans to attend DePaul University School of Music in Chicago. He won both music and academic scholarships from DePaul and the Falcon Heights Lauderdale Lions Club.

Katie (Peter and Beth Mercer-Taylor, 2231 Folwell) graduated from Roseville Area High School and plans to attend Oberlin College in Ohio. She achieved the following recognitions and awards: 2013 Neal Kwong Youth Citizenship Award, National Merit Commended Scholar, President's Education Award, AP Scholar, National Honor Society, and 2012 All-Conference Honorable Mention in soccer.

Natalie (Liz and Bill Eull, 2099 Hoyt) graduated from DeLaSalle Catholic High School and plans to attend UW-Madison.

Homeowner Certificate of Insurance requirement
On July 2, residents were notified by the Grove President Steve Taff about the UMN certificate of insurance requirement. Links to the notification letter and the list of insurance agents are on our website under the Homeowners Association "Archives."


August Camp Registration Open
Falcon Heights Parks and Recreation offers affordable specialty camps and programs not found anywhere else during the month of August: Harry Potter Camp, Great Adventure Camp, Tennis Camps and more. The child to teacher/coach ratio is lower than most. For more information or to register online.

Adopt-A-Crop program
Drop off your excess fresh garden produce at City Hall, 2077 W. Larpenteur Ave. They deliver it daily to our local food shelf.

City Commission Openings: Planning, Parks and Recreation and Human Rights
Make a difference – volunteer for any of the openings on Falcon Heights City Commissions. High school students may be eligible. City commissioners are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council. For more info or contact City Administrator Bart Fischer, 651-792-7600.

Energy Rebate Program from City Hall
Get 50% of the building permit fee back for qualified home improvements. The Falcon Heights building inspector verifies the Energy Star rated improvements are installed.

Going on Vacation?
The St. Anthony Police Department provides a great service to our community. If you are going on vacation the police will do a premise survey of your property while you are gone. Call the police department during business hours and put your address on their list, 612-782-3350. Please do not call the Falcon Heights City Hall.

City and Park Facilities for Rent
Looking for large venues for graduation, birthday, or family gatherings at reasonable prices? Falcon Heights Community Park Building and Shelters, Curtiss Field Building, City Hall Council Chambers, City Hall Kitchen and City Hall Conference Room are available for rent to residents and non-residents all year round. Fees for rental vary based on amenities and facilities being used.

In Memory
Brenda Zimmerman, 2225 Fowell, passed away unexpectedly on July 5 at the age of 74. Graveside services were held at Temple of Aaron Cemetery.
Brenda and Ben Zimmerman were married for 53 years. She was instrumental in the development and maintenance of the Northrop traffic triangle garden.
A memorial garden is being planned for the traffic triangle in Brenda's memory. Please send donations to Karen Kloser, 1596 Northrop.

Brenda is pictured at left holding grandson, Aaron, 17 months ago at birth.

Grove Spring Egg Hunt
Under wintry conditions on April 1, eight Grove families gathered at 8 am to hunt for (frozen?) eggs. Coffee, cakes and cookies fueled the 15 hunters and their parents.

Trolley Line Graffiti Clean Up
A Destination Imagination (DI) team of fourth graders named "When Bacon Flies," conducted a graffiti, brush and trash clean up as their service project on the former trolley track trail west of Coffman on April 6.
Grove resident Adelaide, daughter of Julia Loupe, 2279 Folwell, and one of the DI team members, had help from Falcon Heights Mayor Peter Lindstrom, St. Anthony police, parents and UMN student organizations.
